Sometimes I come across really good bands and this is one of them. They are a band that is self described as a mix of indie pop and soul. They have that throwback type sound that for some reason sounds incredibly fresh in the current musical landscape. Fitz And The Tantrums play a soulful pop rock N' Roll sound that is incredibly tasty to the ear holes. If you don't like this album then you don't like music it turns out. Great music, great lyryics and the singing is fantastic. Give them a listen, you won't be disappointed my friend.
I ,with the help of Nick Mendola on The Late Nick Mendola Program on Hometown 1230 WECK discovered them by accident one night when we were talking about Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Nick was looking around online for a band that contained the the word Fitz in their name. Right away we played the video and I loved the retro soul sound they had going. I usually go for a more guitar driven sound but lately i have been getting into more soulful stuff both new and old to go along with my usual eclectic mix of indie rock and metal. With the help of Twitter we managed to get the lead singer, Fitz, to call in and talk about the band. Which you can hear here (segment seven). It is always awesome to find new exciting music. Listen tot he interview, check out the videos and buy their record!
This song by the Billionaires has that retro 80's sound and is so very tasty to my ears, like a Starburst is tasty to my mouth. Not orange Starburst though, because i don't care for the orange ones. I once bought a pack of exclusively red and pink Starbursts, and let me tell you that was a fantastic day. Top ten at least. You might be thinking this guy must have had a horrible life if the highlight of his life is buying a pack of Starburst, but Starbursts are especially tasty and eating one is for sure the highlight of any day, week, month or year. I hope I get a bunch of Starburst from the bags of Halloween candy I steal from the neighborhood kids this year.
I happen to be a huge fan of sleeping. It is one of my passions in life. Just not at night. I would rather sleep all day and be up all night. There is something about mornings that make me sick to my stomach. Ironically I love breakfast food. I think the person who invented the concept of brunch was a lot like me. They said to themselves, "you know I love breakfast, but hate getting up early. What can I do to remedy this? I know I will have breakfast whenever I get around to getting out of bed. Brilliant!" Breakfast for dinner is an even better concept, I am pretty sure I can get my self out of bed by dinner time. Although some days it is a real chore. I have always found that once the sun comes up and those birds start making all of their noises it is time for me to vanish and retreat to my cave. People say the freaks come out at night but honestly, have you seen the crazy people who are out during the day? Some say, oh you slept your whole day away, and I say so what? I mean what is the difference? So I missed daytime television or a leisurely walk in the park, big deal. Sleeping is the best thing ever. Napping is the best type of sleep. I love being able to get in my bed without worrying if I will wake in time or be rudely interrupted by my alarm. Plus, my dreams are awesome. I dream about time traveling to the future to look at the newest electronics and equally as awesome things. So if you see me sleeping, and it could be any where because I can sleep ANYWHERE, please do not disturb me and pull me back in to the cold waters of reality!
So I have been slacking on blog entries these days, so for the next ten days i will feature my favorite songs of all time. I couldn't pin them down to an exact number but I will talk about them in a loose reverse order.
First up is a cover of a cover and possible a cover. let me explain. First Cut is the Deepest is a song originally written and recorded by Cat Stevens, excellently covered by P.P. Arnold, covered by Rod Stewart, perfected by The koobas and ruined by Cheryl crow. My favorite version is by far The koobas version. They are a virtually unknown band from Liverpool, England. Yes, that Liverpool. They put out the song in 1968 but it was over shadowed by the previously mentioned P.P. Arnold version which was a hit in the UK. To me though, this is the best version. The singer, Stuart Leatherwood (great name) sounds like a guy who has a broken heart and just can't move on. Which is what the song is basically about. The singer is not so sure about entering a new relationship because he is still hurt by a past relationship. I feel this version best expresses that sentiment and you can hear the pain in his voice in front of a 60's garage psychedelic sound.
So, now Google lets you put a picture on their home page. You can choose your own picture or one from a gallery they have. The one day at work I was looking through the pictures when I came across an angel!
Okay, sometimes I just relate to a song, and who wouldn't relate to a song called Slaves that talks about how we all are slaves to something. It is true we all are slaves to our jobs or debts ourselves. We are tied to ourselves and the way we look at the world. Interpreting the world through our own filter that probably totally skews reality in ways we have no idea. Then again who is to say which perception really is reality. I say mine and you say yours. In a way we are both right. In the end we are just slaves to our perception and of course to time. This song has a bluesy hook that will have you tapping your foot if you happen to be the type of person who does such a thing. Also a note about the blog.
If you think about it, even the best athletes need to take time off from their respective sport after a tough season. Professional athletes need the off season to rest both mentally and physically from the rigors of a long season. This same way of thinking can work for a persons romantic or date life as well, which is why I am going on a dating sabbatical.
Alright, I was lazy today so instead of writing a whole new blog entry I have decided to dig into the archives and pull out an essay I originally wrote for a Philosophy of Love and sex class. I originally picked up the class because it was the only class open in the time period I wanted so I took it. It actually was taught by a guy named Dr. Hole. The class itself was okay but my own research on the topic has been far more interesting. This is a preview of some of the blogs that are coming up that will take some of the different topics from the Philosophy of love. And by love I mean romantic relationships. So in the meantime enjoy, and feel free to comment because I am not sure I actually believe what I say in this essay.
For the longest time I refused to get an ipod. I was against them in every way. First of all I didn’t like how you couldn’t take music off them without the help of some other program. I also just had fun hating apple products. So instead I clowned around with inferior music playing products that couldn’t hold anything but a fragment of my music collection, so I gave in.
